Extracurricular Activities
Recognizing each child has unique interests and talents, St. Mary School offers a wide variety of extracurricular activities to cultivate and encourage the development of personal interests and abilities.
CYO SPORTS |
- Sign up forms are sent home before the end of the school year for the following Fall, and in the Fall for Winter Sports. Forms for Spring sports are sent home in the mid Winter.
- Girls Grades 4 thru 8 can participate in Volleyball, Cross Country, Basketball and Track & Field.
- Girls Grades 7 and 8 can participate in Cheerleading.
- Boys Grades 4 thru 8 can participate in Football, Crosss Country, Basketball, and Track & Field.
- Boys & Girls Grades 1 thru 3 can participate in Intramural Cross Country.
- Contact the School Office or Craig Wiehe for more information about football, volleyball, or basketball. Contact Ray Riedel at 323-5576 about Cross Country.
- Parents interested in volunteering to coach or assist with the athletics program can join the Sports Committee.

STUDENT GOVERNMENT |
- Encourages active participation in school activities.
- Builds communication, organizational and leadership skills.
- Develops understanding of government process.
- Students in fourth through eighth grade have the opportunity to serve as classroom reps.
- Junior High students comprise the Student Council.

ACADEMIC CHALLENEGE |
- Junior High students in grades 7 & 8 compete with other area schools.
- Practices are held after school.
- Meets are hosted by St. Mary, or the competing school.
- Students who welcome a challenge, or love playing Trivial Pursuit and watching Jeopardy should consider joining the team.

GIRL SCOUTS |
- Girls Kindergarten through grade twelve.
- Daisy, Brownies, Junior and Cadet Troops.
- Develops leadership skills and independence.
- Builds self-confidence and self-esteem.
- Activities include crafts, fieldtrips and camping.
- Emphasizes community service, team work and learning new skills.

- Girl Scouts of Erie Shores.

BOY SCOUTS |
- Cub Scout Pack, first through fifth grade.
- Boy Scout Troop, sixth through twelth grade
- Teaches values, team work, community service, citizenship and leadership.
- Offers fun activities and camping adventures.

- Heart of Ohio Council.

BAND |
- Grades 4 thru 8.
- Instruction in instrumental music.
- Participation in school band.
- Introduction to instrumental music utilizing flutophone provided to all students in the third grade.
- Registration forms distributed at end of third grade.
- Lessons are during school hours.

YOUNG PEOPLE CHOIR |
- Open to all elementary students of the Parish.
- Emphasizes development of music and singing skills.
- Nurtures a sense of ministry.
- September through May, the Choir lead songs at the 11:00 A.M. Mass and other liturgical celebrations as determined.
- Rehearsals are on Thursdays from 2:15 to 3:15 P.M. in the Church
- Come to a rehearsal to join, or contact Mike Moore.
